Happiness and freedom begin with a clear understanding of one
principle: Some things are within our control and some things
are not. It is when we learn to distinguish between what we can
control and what we cannot control that inner tranquility and
outer effectiveness become possible. (Epictectus)
What we do not have control are other people opinions or
objective realities. What we have control are our own attitudes,
aspirations, and the contents and character of our inner lives.
When we see clearly, we will meet with tranquility what we
cannot control and focus our energy on cultivating what we can
control.
