Science and Esoterism: “Magnetic Ropes” Link the Sun and the Earth

What kind of immediate reactions, based on popular contemporary “critical thought,” would there be to the description of subtle conduits linking the Sun and the Earth and through which various qualities of energy circulate?

There would be many reactions, certainly sarcastic and mocking, but all variations on the same belief: “such a description is, unfortunately, to the detriment of all, a new manifestation of a deranged conscience struck with grave symptoms of irrationalism, an illness that even a strong reaction of rational scientific reason could probably not cure.”

In the spiritual philosophical traditions of both the East and the West, there are descriptions of “paths,” “energy channels,” “subtle links” that tie everything that exists together; they form a sort of energy web made up of mobile strands of energy, justifying the idea that all that exists is interrelated, interdependent and in reciprocal interaction.

In the Eastern tradition, “siddhi” is the generic Sanskrit term used to designate these “subtle channels,” including the energy that circulates through them.

Recently, Themis, a fleet of five satellites that NASA is using to study a phenomenon called the “auroral substorm,” revealed a “surprising” fact: the existence of “magnetic ropes directly linking the Sun and the Earth.”

Dave Sibeck of the Goddard Space Flight Center explains that “solar wind particles flow in along these ropes, providing energy for geomagnetic storms and auroras.”

So here, through a sort of effect that is in itself genuinely irrational, this vision of “siddhis” as energy channels has just left the sick world of the irrational and become “scientific,” entering into the normal, regular world of the rational.

The spiritual heritage of humanity is full of very interesting visions; it would be a shame to overlook them, at first because they are the products of “pathological irrationality,” and then because they have become “scientifically normal.”

Because in both cases, we would remain ignorant of the major teachings of the spiritual heritage of our humanity.
