The great poet and mystic Rumi was born eight centuries ago in Afghanistan. His
mystical and spiritual vision of Islam nourished the culture and religiosity of
Islam.
This great muslim philosopher taught tolerance and respect, as well as the
necessary development of reason and the essential search for knowledge, which
always must be guided by love.
Are the eight centuries separating us from the birth of Rumi behind or ahead of
us? These centuries exist behind us. However, in another light they also lay
ahead of us, if we consider the inherent value and greatness of this
universally-valid muslim mystique which summons every being, above and beyond
adherence to specific religions, to actively partake in his/her true
transformation towards the Good, the Just, and the Beautiful.
The more virtues take root and grow in the hearts and consciousness of one’s
being, the more they will manifest outwardly and the more obstacles to union
with others will decrease to eventually disappear.
