Recently, in Hamburg, the Dalai Lama was asked if he thought "Berlin was doing
enough for his cause". The Tibetan spiritual leader answered that "the German
government is like other governments -- basically sympathetic. Certainly there's
a sense of concern. The question is whether that's adequate".
Feeling, even expressing compassion for another's suffering is good, but is it
always enough? Sharing or understanding the feelings or ideas of others is
positive, but is it always enough?
Certainly we all have a sense of concern for the great humanitarian values and
virtues. We might even take part in a humanitarian action once a while. That is
good.
But shouldn't we also apply the Dalai's Lama approach: it is good, but "the
question is whether it's adequate?"
